Please join Art Metropole on Thursday September 10th from 7–10PM for the opening reception of in ubiquities of microplastics, a solo exhibition of new work by Juliana Huxtable. The opening will be followed by an afterparty at Standard Time (165 Geary Ave) from 10PM–late, with DJ performances from Juliana Huxtable and 999ADJ.

in ubiquities of microplastics presents a series of mixed-media inkjet transfers by Juliana Huxtable. Animated by the sensibilities, textures, and sensualities of nightlife, this new body of work intervenes into photographs, translating them first through inkjet transfer, then through painting and screenprinting. An endeavor to lose the truthfulness of the image emerges in Huxtable’s process, tilting towards the nightclub’s ability to transform what might otherwise be straightforwardly discernable. The printing process becomes a technology through which images are fragmented and plasticized, just as the lights, the fog, the sound, the substances, and the sweat form a technology that breaks down and transforms the dance floor.

in ubiquities of microplastics is Juliana Huxtable’s first solo exhibition in Canada.

The opening reception for in ubiquities of microplastics is a free and non-ticketed event. Tickets for the afterparty at Standard Time can be purchased through Dice by clicking the link in our bio. Funds raised by the afterparty will help support programming at Art Metropole.
