WAITING FOR BRITNEY SPEARS
Legendary journalist Jeff Weiss (Pitchfork, Washington Post, LA Times) is stopping by Toronto on Tuesday Oct. 7 to discuss his new memoir Waiting for Britney Spears, an insider's account of his time covering Ms. Spears in circa-2000s.
We’re kicking things off with an open reception from 6-7:30, and then we'll have a panel discussing with Jeff Weiss and two of Canada's top music journalists. We'll end the night with a set of Britney Spears covers from local legend Chai Sully, accompanied on guitar.
Get out your juicy couture, get out your old Motorola Razor, get out your Ed Hardy — and let's unpack what was ACTUALLY in the water in the 2000s. This'll be a night to remember, and it's only $10 to join.
Why we're doing this
The teams at Lore and Outtaline have both been fans of Jeff's music coverage for years. He's best-known in the 2020s for his groundbreaking coverage of LA's rap scene, including his work that helped get both 03 Greedo and Drakeo the Ruler out of prison. But this's a rare look into a hidden early era of his journalism—and it's arriving just as we're reappraising the 2000s nostalgia that's in full swing.
Plus, it means we get to throw a party where everyone can wear denim on denim, and where we can blast Toxic on repeat. There's that too. If you don't come you support Kevin Federline's solo career and think he should continue it.
