Queer icon and relentless genre-buster, Michael V. Smith is a writer, performer, and filmmaker from Kelowna BC, by way of Cornwall ON, Toronto, and Vancouver. His novel Cumberland was shortlisted for the Books in Canada First Novel Award. He's won the Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ2S+ Emerging Writers, the Director's Choice award for the Palm Spring Cinema Diverse Festival for his genderqueer memoir The Floating Man, and the 2025 Researcher of the Year Award at UBC Okanagan campus, where he is a full prof teaching creative writing, film and performance.
