SHANGO W/ LOCAL LEGENDS MARK OLIVER, RON ALLEN, KIKI LEFREAK & DISCOTT
2 Floors of fun DJs up and downstairs!
Shango is Toronto’s favourite underground party for the freaks, geeks, queers, dancers and heads!
Im very excited to announce a local legend Mr. Mark Oliver!
Back in 1995 we would see him religiously at Destiny Fridays at Club Generations on the corner of Isabella and Yonge st. His Dj sets changed my life…In the beginning during the summer of 1988, Mark Oliver inspired by the Second Summer of Love erupting in the UK, Oliver threw what is widely considered Toronto's first ever acid house party — at the Tazmanian Ballroom this lit the fuse that would eventually ignite one of the largest rave scenes on the North American continent. In 1991 he was co-running the legendary 23 Hop at 318 Richmond Street West with the Exodus crew. From 23 Hop he moved to Klub Max on Peter Street — his first foray into a more mainstream venue. From Klub Max he joined the Exodus crew at the city's early warehouse events and outdoor raves, becoming one of the most recognisable names and faces in the growing scene. By 1996 Oliver become the resident DJ at The Guvernment, one of the most celebrated dance venues in Canadian history. Mark is going to blow our minds with a special Shango curated vinyl set spanning the past present and future!
Next up we have Ron Allen a local legend for decades,
Toronto’s underground has quietly produced some of the most influential figures in global house and techno. Among them stands Ron Allen, a producer, DJ, and label founder whose career traces the evolution of the city’s electronic music scene itself. Ron Allen is a Toronto-based, JUNO-nominated, music producer, songwriter, and DJ. Ron is also the founder of legendary dance music imprint, Strobe Records, an instrumental label in developing the sounds of house music and techno in the early 90’s. Co-founding Strobe with Hayden Andre Brown, Ron Allen stands as one of the defining architects of early '90s house and techno. A DJ turned producer, Allen's passion for music drove him into the studio, where he crafted tracks that would resonate far beyond the dance floor.
Supported by Shango’s founder Kiki LeFreak and a special vinyl only 4 hour set in the jama by Discott.
