Queer East Social is a celebration of freedom, identity, and community honouring the intersection of Black and 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences. Timed around Juneteenth, this event offers space to reflect on the ongoing fight for racial, sexual, and gender equity while uplifting the joy and resilience of Black queer and trans communities.

We gather to celebrate how far we’ve come, acknowledge how far we have to go, and stand united against hate in all its forms.

We’ve heard from community leaders about the importance of showing up loudly and consistently as allies beyond our roles in hospitality and we’re committed to listening, learning, and creating safer, more affirming spaces for all.

✨ Honouring Juneteenth & Black Queer Freedom ✨

This edition of Queer East Social is grounded in the spirit of Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black people in the United States, while also acknowledging the ongoing struggle for racial justice and equity.

As we celebrate Pride, we also hold space for the intersections of Black and 2SLGBTQIA+ identities, recognizing that the fight for liberation is not over, especially for those at the margins.

This gathering is a celebration of:

Honouring the intersection of Black and 2SLGBTQIA+ identities
Celebrating freedom in all its forms—racial, sexual, and gender
Acknowledging ongoing struggles against anti-Blackness, homophobia, and transphobia
Creating space for joy, justice, and community, especially for Black queer and trans people

We hope this space fosters connection, reflection, and celebration and reminds us all of the power of showing up for one another with love and accountability.
