This May 2026, Opera Queens proudly brings back our 4th annual Gaysian Gala, celebrating AAPI (Asian & Asian Pacific Islander) Heritage Month.

Join Tanya with pianist Suzanne Yeo exploring and unpacking a wide-ranging program of music by Asian composers and the complex canon of music inspired by the East, from Lehár’s “Land of Smiles”, Delibe’s “Lakmé”, Alice Ping Yee Ho, Chan Ka Nin, and more.

Tanya Smania (she/them) has been seen and heard ‘round the globe from the Canadian Opera Company and Halifax Pride to the UK, Europe, the States, and Australia. Signature roles include Tchaikovsky’s Tatyana, Bizet’s Carmen, and Mozart’s Queen of the Night.

Opera Queens presents classical vocal music presented in FULL COLOUR - QTBIPOC in drag, gender-bent, and queerified. Sorry, Timmy Chalamet - opera is awesome and we’re dragging it kicking and screaming into the 21st century in the way it should be be - inclusive, accessible, and fun! Join us the first Saturdays of May to September from 5-7 PM as we welcome Toronto’s finest QTBIPOC special guests crossing disciplines up close and personal - no mics and low tech, but high camp and drama!
