FREE Event/ All-Ages, outdoors, open to the public/ Wheelchair
Who: Musicians; song-writers, comedians, etc.
(Performers asked to dress modestly, as this is a family picnic and all the dogs are nude.)
Why: Give open-mic hosts an opportunity to recruit for their events;
Give performers an opportunity to demonstrate the creativity they foster at open-mics.
AND!!! For increased audience participation:
The paths will be made into giant rainbow-coloured diagrams and maps of the world, covered in climate change themed games, because “It’s too late!”
WHAT?! Musicians playing acoustic music next to a dog park!
And the homeless encampment adjacent to the dog-park.
WHO?!
Mostly musicians: The musicians are from across the rainbow who have worked on their material at open mics in Toronto. Showing their support before the trans rally is important to each of them.
Co-host will be comedian Emily Gridlock, known for their thoughtful jokes about mental health and being a trans person.
The host will explain games, and participation suggestions and examples.
They’ll do a “Groomers Academy” about housing, safe-injection site closures, etc.
They juggle giant tennis ball, frisbees, and sticks while dressed like a tree or skeleton.
WHY?! This year’s pride theme is “ALL IN”. A free alternative-drag show in an open setting will allow everyone to attend, and allow performers to express themselves as big / loud / small / quiet as our furry-friends.
Why it’s important:
-Music can be a someone’s entire world and be fundamental in helping them be themselves. -Making music is how a lot of non-binary people express their queerness.
-Generally, queer musicians will take any excuse to dress up or play with dogs.
-Dogs are the best allies and deserve to be entertained
Sounds fun, right? Let’s make our best friends proud. Let us know through instagram or email if you’d like to perform or participate, or show up ready to give the neighbourhood’s dogs the time of their lives.
Host: With several asexual/technically drag costumes/ characters, the host of The “It’s Too Late!” Late Show sings their monologues about the climate, politics, cognition, and dogs. Historically from the punk/metal scene, where most people are “non-binary performance artists”, they played guitar as “la tronçonneuse”, the french feminine noun for “chainsaw”. In 2023, they were in Saskatchewan studying the tundra thawing, uranium mining pollution, and renewable energy for their thesis “The Universal Theory of Assholes”, during controversies surrounding story-time-drag. A veteran of many protests and hate-crimes, they officially became “technically a drag queen” and started formally “grooming” youth as their other nickname, “Grandma”. They do karaoke to their own music, make powerpoint presentations about money/natural resources, engineer art installations, and draw sidewalk-chalk maps/murals. The theme of everything is equality, empathy, sustainability, and non-consumerism. Specific attention is given to the mental health challenges and cultural obstacles facing non-binary people. The most empathetic among us, DOG PEOPLE, will have to lead the way in the next few years as the earth reaches the point of no return
